November 14 will be an important day. We are at the height of a crisis which, despite the uses and misuses related to the term governance, is unlikely to find a reliable government at all. Despite this, the measures adopted against the crisis purport to govern millions of people in view of a continuously postponed future. On November 14, thousands of men and women intend to strike in order to show that they don’t want to be treated as the current side effects of crisis.
For us, to get ready for this date means to reflect on the situation that makes it a pressing and almost indefeasible need. The urgency of the situation is enormous and by now almost unbearable. But it’s not enough.

En los días 10 y 11 de Octubre de 2012, en la ciudad de Bogota, Colombia, tuvo lugar el IV Seminario Internacional de la Red CADTM Abya-Yala Nuestra America (AYNA), bajo el titulo “Crisis de la Deuda: Auditoria y Alternativas”. El seminario es el cuarto organizado por el capitulo de America Latina y el Caribe de la Red CADTM, tras los seminarios organizados en Bogota (2009), Buenos Aires (2010) y Brasilia (2011). Durante este periodo de tiempo la Red CADTM AYNA ha avanzado de manera significativa en las discusiones sobre las herramientas disponibles para los movimientos sociales en materia de organización y lucha en contra de los impactos negativos del sistema de la deuda sobre la población. Antes de nada, nos gustaría aclarar que nos dirigimos a usted como la canciller de la República Federal de Alemania. No le hemos votado y no reconocemos que haya una canciller de Europa. En este sentido nosotras, las personas que suscribimos esta carta abierta, lo hacemos como ciudadanas y ciudadanos de un país que usted pretende visitar el próximo día 12 de Noviembre. Por carácter de la visita anunciada y frente a la grave situación económica y social vivida en Portugal, afirmamos que usted no es bienvenida. La señora canciller debe ser considerada persona non grata en territorio portugués, porque viene, claramente para interferir en las decisiones del Estado Portugués sin haber sido encomendada democráticamente por los portugueses.
Incluso así, como nuestro gobierno hace algún tiempo que dejó de obedecer las leyes de este país y la Constitución de la República, le dirigimos esta carta directamente a usted. La presencia de varios grandes empresarios es un ultraje. Disfrazados de “inversión extranjera”usted traerá una serie de personas que vienen a ver las ruinas en que su política ha dejado nuestra economía, como hizo con la griega, la irlandesa, la italiana y la española. Su comitiva no solamente junta a quien coaccionó el Estado Portugués, con el consentimiento del gobierno, a privatizar el patrimonio y los bienes mas preciados, como también junta potenciales beneficiarios de este patrimonio y de bienes públicos, comprándolos hoy a precio de rebajas. Activists from different social movements, have gathered in Madrid during this weekend in the Agora99% grassroots meeting, to work and find shared agreements on debt among movements of different countries. These are our main conclusions:
Lack of democracy in Europe has allowed that, under the threat of debt, people’s basic rights are being violated. We denounce the responsible agents of emptying democratic institutions from people’s sovereignty. We point at transnational corporations, specially international banks, for grabbing wealth through the payment of interests and the privatisation of the public companies in strategic sectors.
We already know that debt claimed to governments has not been acquired for the benefit of the people. We therefore consider it illegitimate debt and will not pay. The link between debt, austerity and privatisation is clear. We consider it urgent to end the growing impoverishment of the people and ensure that all can cover their basic needs, as reflected in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; housing, food, healthcare, education, employment and social services. We call on social movements working on protection of these rights to coordinate protest actions and build alternatives together. Sigue leyendo

Activistas de distintos movimientos sociales, procedentes de distintos países, nos hemos reunido en Madrid durante este fin de semana, en el encuentro Agora99%, para trabajar y buscar puntos de encuentro entre los movimientos de los diferentes países en torno a los ejes “Democracia, Derechos y Deuda”. El grupo que ha estado trabajando sobre la deuda concluye:
La falta de democracia en Europa ha permitido que, bajo la amenaza de la deuda, se recorten y se violen los derechos de las personas. Denunciamos a los agentes que han vaciado las instituciones democráticas de la soberanía de los pueblos y que, en connivencia con los partidos políticos, son responsables de la aplicación de políticas que generan empobrecimiento para la mayoría. Apuntamos a las empresas transnacionales, y especialmente a la banca internacional, como responsables de estas políticas. Son estas empresas las que acumularán más riquezas a través del pago de los intereses y de la privatización de las empresas públicas de sectores estratégicos. Exigimos su urgente sometimiento a la voluntad de los pueblos. Sigue leyendo
