You are not in need of a bailout? That doesn’t matter, Troika offers its bailout policies at a competitive price. Besides, nobody asked you!

Many people are unaware of the strong role the Troika plays in the EU policies; mainly with regard to the countries in the South and East of Europe but with growing influence also in the North. With the May 2014 European Parliament elections getting closer, the Troika Party campaign is conceived as a tool that aims at raising awarenessin citizens but also at dismantling the current neoliberal narrative and unpack the role of the Troika in European decision making. There is not a focus on who to vote or not voting; we aim at people rethinking the concept of Europe and democracy. Sigue leyendo

Similar to the last few months, the European context is characterized by governments doing window dressing, while the situation for more and more people gets worse. After Ireland, Portugal is likeliest to be the second country to leave the umbrella of the Troika, in May. However, this is unlikely to better the living conditions for the people there, because austerity will continue for years and whether the level of debt can really get reduced without considerable debt relief is more than questionable.

Economic governance, the Troika and the struggles against European neoliberalism

The meeting intends to bring activists, organizations and networks that are addressing the undemocratic neoliberal crisis strategy and governance imposed from the EU – the EU shock doctrine – and discuss together which strategies have been more successful and to identify what are the common lines from which we can draw a genuine European movement.

Austerity, privatisation and attacks on social rights are being pushed systematically from the European level. While there have been many impressive struggles at the national level in Southern Europe, European coordination and its response is still small.

First steps towards more European coordination have been around sporadic action days. They have allowed in some countries to make resistances visible but have not managed to achieve a substantial turn around. At the same time new forms of action, organisation and campaigning are emerging, but often with little coordination between the social actors – from the more radical to the more traditional – that promote them. Our Democracy against their austerity! – a call for action against the EU Spring Summit

‘For a European Spring’ is a call for actions, strikes and demonstrations all over Europe on the 13th of March, and for a pan-European demonstration and creative actions in the city of Brussels on the 14th of March. Coordinated efforts in Europe and North Africa to fight against Debt and Austerity (april 2012).

The International Citizen Debt Audit Network – ICAN, has been born under the slogan “We don’t owe! We won’t pay!”, bringing together movements and networks in different European and North African countries, fighting austerity measures through the implementation of Citizen Debt Audits

The First Euro-Mediterranean Meeting of the newly formed International Network for Citizen Debt Audits, has been held on April 7th in Brussels. Activists from twelve countries participated: Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Egypt and Tunisia.
